From Tension to Triumph: How God Healed Gabe’s Headaches
I had a headache at work—just an annoyance, nothing serious. But later, I remembered I needed a word of knowledge (WOK), and a thought crossed my mind: What if this headache is one? I turned my attention toward God and felt an impression—“tension headache.” So, I prayed over my own headache, and instantly, it disappeared. That was my confirmation: God wanted to heal someone else, too.

The next day, I attended a meeting at a friend’s house where a Gen Z missions team was staying. I casually asked if she had a tension headache, but she said no and suggested I ask the team. So, I did: “I’m practicing hearing words of knowledge—does anyone here have a tension headache?”
All at once, they pointed to one guy: “That’s Gabe! He’s been having crazy tension headaches!”
The Conversation
Gabe jumped in before I even asked. He had been suffering from recurring tension headaches ever since their mission tour began. His mom and others had prayed for him, but the headaches kept coming back. He wasn’t in pain at that moment, but he still felt tense and uncomfortable, and his last headache had hit earlier that week.
I explained that words of knowledge build faith, and I believed God wanted to heal him. Excited and a little surprised, Gabe agreed to let me pray.
Prayer and Revelation
Before praying, I paused. “Holy Spirit, how do You want me to pray?”
Immediately, I saw an image—a dark, tar-like film floating on water, like plastic wrap. Then, I saw a hand strike through the layer, pushing it away and clearing the water. At the same time, I sensed that stress was a factor in his headaches.
“Do you think stress is connected to your headaches?” I asked.
He nodded emphatically.
I placed a hand on his shoulder and prayed: “Holy Spirit, we welcome You. In Jesus’ name, I command all stress-related tension headaches to go and stay gone. Every attack against this mission team, leave now in Jesus’ name.”
The Breakthrough
After a moment, I encouraged Gabe to move his neck and shoulders to check how he felt. He took a deep breath, stretched, and his eyes widened.
“Wow! It feels like a weight just lifted off me! I don’t feel that tense pressure anymore!”
“Thank You, Jesus!” I said, smiling.
Gabe was stunned. “It’s crazy that you knew exactly what was going on!”
I told him the truth: I didn’t know anything—God did. I had simply listened and obeyed. “This is what God loves to do! I’m just excited to be part of it.”
Encouragement and Next Steps
As we talked, Gabe shared that he had been handling both the sound setup and playing drums on tour. The constant back-and-forth had made things stressful, and the headaches only made it worse.
I reminded him that God’s perfect peace was available to him (Isaiah 26:3). “If the headaches try to come back, don’t just push through. Gather your team and pray together (James 5:13-16). God is with you in this—He cares about you!”
Final Reflection
Gabe’s healing wasn’t random—it was a clear reminder that God still heals today. Jesus healed in the Bible (Isaiah 53:4-5; Matthew 4:23-25), and He’s still doing it now.
The word of knowledge built faith. The Holy Spirit gave specific insight into the root cause. And Gabe was open to receiving. There were no spiritual blocks—just a simple moment of God’s love breaking through.
I’ve seen situations where deeper inner healing is needed before physical healing happens. I’ve also seen spiritual attacks cause recurring symptoms. If Gabe hadn’t experienced relief, I would have prayed differently, asking God for more insight. But in this case, the moment he received prayer, the tension lifted.
Beyond the miracle itself, what impacted me most was seeing how it strengthened faith—both for Gabe and his team. So many people believe healing is reserved for a select few, for “super-Christians.” But that’s just not true. Healing is part of what Jesus invites all of His disciples into.
Faith grows over time. I’ve built confidence in God’s healing power by stepping out again and again. Not everyone I pray for is instantly healed, but I trust that when I listen, trust, and move with God, I get to partner with Him in incredible ways (John 5:19).
Healing isn’t about striving—it’s about responding. And when we do, we get to witness the extraordinary in the everyday moments of life.
