From Start to Finish: God’s Healing Power for Alex
Work of Knowledge (WOK): A Testimony of Healing
While I was alone in prayer, the words “left ankle” passed through my mind like a stray thought. It felt like a knowing—an impression that someone was experiencing pain in their left ankle or leg. I recognized this as a word of knowledge (WOK) and sensed it was meant for someone attending a healing equipping night at my home. I planned to share it as a teaching example.
On the night of the gathering, three people arrived on time. During small talk, Alex mentioned that someone had prayed for his ankle earlier that day, and the pain had disappeared, but his knee above it remained in terrible pain. My heart leaped—I knew immediately that my WOK was for him. I asked if it was his left ankle, and he confirmed it was.

The Interview
I asked Alex if his ankle was still in pain. He said it was completely healed, but his knee was still at an 8 out of 10 on the pain scale. In that moment, I had no doubt—God wasn’t finished. I told Alex I believed God had highlighted his injury to fully restore him.
Prayer for Healing
While it’s best practice to ask deeper questions to determine the root cause of pain, my excitement overrode my logic. Instead of continuing the interview, I immediately asked if I could pray for him. Alex, equally eager, agreed.
Since half of his pain had already left, I sensed authority in prayer and chose a command-style prayer. Jesus gave His disciples authority to heal (Matthew 10:8; 28:18), and I felt led to exercise that authority.
I placed my fingertips lightly on Alex’s knee and asked him to let me know if he felt any changes as I prayed. Almost immediately, his entire knee jerked in what seemed like a spasm. Assuming it was his body responding to the Holy Spirit’s presence, I continued.
“In Jesus’ name, I command all residual pain to go. Thank You, God, for what You’ve started. I ask You to complete it. I speak strength and wholeness to this knee—joints, ligaments, muscles, and all tissue—in Jesus’ name. Amen.”
The Outcome
When I finished praying, I stood up and asked how he felt.
Alex looked at me in amazement. “Did you feel my whole knee jerk? It was like something shot from your hand and made it do that!”
I asked him to move around and walk. He took a few steps, then more confidently. “It feels fine!” he said.
“On a scale of 0 to 10, where is the pain now?”
He grinned. “Zero! It’s completely gone!”
Celebrating and Teaching
The room erupted in celebration. God had already shown up as our healer, and I knew we were about to have an amazing night of equipping. We discussed the process of standing in faith for healing—how sometimes it’s immediate, and other times it unfolds over time. I also encouraged Alex to continue taking care of his health, sharing how Rolland and Heidi Baker learned about stewarding physical health alongside faith.
That night, I taught the Five-Step Prayer Model, emphasizing how to leave someone encouraged after a prayer encounter. We covered what to do if pain returns and, most importantly, how to never blame someone if healing doesn’t occur. Though there was a delay in starting the training, by the end of the night, we shared Alex’s testimony with the group. It encouraged everyone, boosting faith for what God wanted to do next.
Lessons in Faith
Looking back, I wonder if I should have waited to pray in front of the whole group so others could benefit from the experience. But that surge of faith in the moment pushed me to act immediately. I regret not sharing the testimony right at the start of training—perhaps someone else with a similar need could have received healing as well.
I believe Alex was healed because of the faith God gave us through the WOK and his own openness to receive. This was a simple, straightforward encounter—under five minutes—where I followed the prayer model without overcomplicating it.
Some might wonder if this was a case of the gift of faith, a supernatural grace that brings extraordinary miracles. Ian Andrews describes feeling physically enlarged and overwhelmed when that gift manifests. In those moments, entire groups of people experience healing.
In my case, while I had a strong sense of faith, I wouldn’t classify it as the gift of faith. I’ve felt that same surge of anticipation before and not seen healing. Andrews speaks to this, explaining that he has often felt faith but didn’t always have the gift of faith in operation.
Alex’s healing wasn’t about a special anointing—it was about God’s goodness showing up. And that’s the most beautiful part of it all.
